During Connect Mental Health’s week long programme of events we have a number of events that parents will find beneficial to supporting young people’s mental health.
Free Film Screening: Inside Out
On Sunday 9th October we have a free film screening of Inside Out in Eclipse Cinema Bundoran at 4.00pm. Inside Out is a family friendly movie and is a fun and subtle way of introducing mental health conversations. The film follows Riley, who like all of us is guided by her emotions – Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness. The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life.
The film screening is free and we encourage families to attend.
Workshop for Parents: Supporting Young People’s Mental Health
We are partnering with Jigsaw Donegal to deliver their ‘Supporting Young People’s Mental Health’ workshop. The workshop will take place on Tuesday 11th October at 7.30pm in Abbey Vocational School Donegal Town and will be repeated at 7.30pm on Wednesday 12th October at 7.30pm in Colaiste Cholmcille Ballyshannon. The event is free to attend, just turn up on the night that best suits you!
Supporting Young People’s Mental Health (SYPMH) is a 1-hour workshop aimed at parents/guardians and others in the community who are concerned about the mental health of young people.
The workshop aims to build understanding of the mental health issues affecting young people and to provide guidance on how to support young people who may be struggling with their mental health.
• Have an understanding of the key issues impacting on the mental health and well-being of young people.
• Be able to identify ways of promoting positive mental health in young people.
• Be aware of the value of listening as a way of supporting young people
