The Connect Mental Health Slieve League Challenge is our headline fundraiser for 2018! We are looking for volunteers to hike to the summit of Slieve League, on the Wild Atlantic Way, on Saturday 5th May to raise funds for Connect Mental Health. At 595 metres above sea level, Slieve League is the highest mountain in south west Donegal with it’s high quartzite peak dominating the Slievetooey Mountains of the north west of Ireland. It is quite simply one of the most beautiful mountains in the country and has the chameleon like quality of appearing to change its shape completely as you view it from different locations around south western Donegal. Its south face drops sharply into the Atlantic Ocean forming one of Europes highest sea cliffs.
When: 10am, Saturday 5th May
How long will it take: 4-5 hours
Difficulty Level: This walk up Slieve League is a moderate walk with short steep sections of exposed walking combined with open and exposed views to the north and south as you ascend this majestic mountain and Slieve Leagues highest point.
Total distance walked is 8km
Total height gain is 500m
Our Guide: This walk will be guided by Iain Miller and his team at Unique Ascent.
What you need to bring: Food and drink for a 4 to 5 hour walk, water/windproof coat and trousers and a sense of humour.
You then need to raise a minimum of €100 through sponsorship in order to take part. Although if you are part of a group, society or team please let us know on firstname.lastname@example.org and you can set a group target. Upon registering to take part in the event a member of the Connect Mental Health team will contact you to provide fundraising support and guidance to help you reach your target. Included as part of your registration:
– A Wild Atlantic Way goodie bag
– Guided walk by Iain Miller, Unique Ascent
– Coach transfer *
– Refreshments upon completion

We are going to climb Slieve League by the Pilgrims Path route from the carpark on the Teelin Road. Our route at first goes up easy slopes through hillside and follows the gentle slopes up the wide Pilgrims Path. Here it gets a little steeper and we climb up a short bouldery slope which takes us on to the first summit. From here we follow the well known One Man’s Path towards Slieve League Summit. As we walk along the high ridge to Slieve League summit the views expand south across Dinegal Bay to the north coast of County Mayo.
